Emerging Talent - performance squad

Performance Squad photo

The Emerging Talent Squad has been established to identify players predominately from the Netball Mainland Zone who have shown netball talent and potential for higher honors.

The programme helps provide players with the tools to take the next step into becoming an elite netballer. It would be expected that players would spend between 1-3 years at each level of the pathway.

Please see 'Pathway to the Top' in the brochure below to identify your next step.
There are two levels in the Emerging Talent Squad.

Level 1 - Up to 30 players. This group is generally our youngest group, with players who show promise in the netball world.

Level 2 - Up to 20 players. Lincoln University Scholarship students will be included in this level. Other players that have been identified with a high level of skill will also be included in this group.

The Process...

Selections – The Selection Panel will observe performances throughout the season e.g. club, school, regional and national secondary schools, representative and NZ Age Group Championships (U19, U17). Prospective players will be invited to apply for selection into the NM ET programme following their identification by the NM Selection Panel. There are selectors allocated to each area in the Netball Mainland region.

Workshops – Once the selection process has been completed the players are invited to attend 4 workshops throughout the season which are designed to teach players how to become elite athletes. One of these workshops is a 2 day camp.

Strength and Conditioning Training – Throughout the year we have a strength and conditioning coach on board with our Emerging Talent players. It is compulsory for Level 2 players to complete 2 x strength and conditioning sessions a week. It is not compulsory for Level 1 players to complete strength and conditioning sessions, however highly recommended.

Throughout the year, each player will be monitored by a coach, and feedback will be given to the Emerging Talent Co-ordinator.

U23 Team 2013

Coach: Nic Kelly
Assistant Coach: Rachel Parkin
Manager: Tracy Barron
Physio: Louise Thayer

Team: Elizabeth Hayman, Sarah Hayman, Sophia Fenwick, Gemma Hazeldine, Jess Drummond, Chloe Williamson, Terauoriwa Harding, Kirsten Hurley, Lucy Gunn, Gemma Hogan, Moniek van Rossum, Jane Watson (Captain)

This year Wellington hosted the Under 23 championships. Netball Mainland (NM) gained 3th place in the inaugural event. NM U23's game in their 3rd / 4th playoff was an entertaining game of a high standard.

The increase in age from under 21 saw most zone teams include ANZC players in their playing rosters and the resulting increased level of competition and contest in this grade was very evident.
