NZ Netball Team Touch Down in the UK

The New Zealand Netball team have arrived in Bath, England ahead of next week’s Commonwealth Games in Scotland and will spend a day acclimatising and getting over jet-lag before hitting the training courts.

The New Zealander’s are looking to win gold for their third consecutive Games, but know that it will not be handed to them on a platter. Months of planning and training have been put into preparing for this pinnacle event in Glasgow and now their feet are on UK soil, the real work will begin. New Zealand Netball coach Waimarama Taumaunu says the Bath leg of the build-up to the Commonwealth Games will be a continuation of the work put in at the three training camps in June and July.

“We trust the processes we have in place and after recovering from the long-haul flights from home, we will hit the ground running,” she said.

“The Netball facilities here in Bath are among the best in the UK and is the ideal place for us to start our campaign and ensure everyone is in a good space both mentally and physically.”

Most of the 12 Netball teams competing in Glasgow are planning comprehensive trainings in the week leading into the Commonwealth Games with the Australian Diamonds in Manchester, Jamaican Sunshine Girls at Northumbria University in North-East England and the England team basing themselves in Bath.

The Netball component of the Commonwealth Games starts on July 24 with New Zealand’s first match against Malawi on July 25.
