Constellation Cup moves to Australian shores

The New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup now moves to Australian soil for the final two Test Matches in Melbourne (Sunday 25 October) and Perth (Friday 30 October).

For the Silver Ferns, the Test Series is not lost – two wins on Australian soil will mean the winner of the Constellation Cup will be decided on percentage.

In her final match as coach in New Zealand, Waimarama Taumaunu paid tribute to a near faultless Australian shooting circle.

“It’s really difficult to beat a team that is shooting at 95%. I thought the Australian shooters shot very well and played very well tonight,” Taumaunu said.

“The scoreline and those last five minutes were disappointing, but I thought it was a great game up until then.”

For the Silver Ferns, shooter Bailey Mes had an impressive game, netting 31 goals at 91%. It was a performance that pleased Taumaunu and brought a roar from the Vector Arena crowd.

“I think she gets better and better; that’s probably as good as she’s played in an international game, but there’s still growth to come,” Taumaunu said.

“She’s a great athlete and it’s just unfortunate that a couple of injuries have meant that she hasn’t had the time on court that we might have expected at this stage of her career.”

The Silver Ferns will depart for Melbourne this afternoon in preparation for the third Test on Sunday.
