Trials Underway

Silver Ferns trials are in full swing on Auckland’s North Shore with competition for spots in the Silver Ferns squad, Accelerant Squad and Silver Ferns team up for grabs this week.

The players received the news today that star goal attack Maria Tutaia will miss the rest of the international Netball season in 2014 due to ongoing rehabilitation to a foot injury sustained at the 2014 Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

The injury break by Tutaia leaves the door open for the other trialling shooters with the intensity lifting a notch during training at Netball North Harbour this morning. All areas of the court are under scrutiny by national selectors, who are tasked with making the crucial decisions as to who will face the Australian Diamonds and England in the New World Netball Series next month.

For some players this is their first invitation to trial for New Zealand’s national Netball team, for some others, this is the opportunity to regain selection.

The national selectors have their work cut out for them with many tough calls to be made over the following days. The New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup starts in two weeks’ time on October 2nd in Invercargill ahead of a further three test matches. And England arrive later in the month to contest the Taini Jamison Trophy in Rotorua and Palmerston North.

The full Silver Ferns squad for the 2014/2015 season, Accelerant squad and team for the Constellation Cup will be named on Friday morning.
