Who will win the inaugural Dame Lois Muir Supreme Award?

Tonight, Netball New Zealand will for the first time honour its best player with the presentation of the Dame Lois Muir Supreme Award.

The winner of the prestigious award will be announced tonight at the inaugural New Zealand Netball Awards, to be held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

The event will be broadcast live on SKY Sport 1 from 8pm (NZT), and include all the glitz and glamour from the Red Carpet, presented by Woman’s Day, before a gala dinner that will honour and celebrate excellence at all levels of the sport.

The Dame Lois Muir Supreme Award is the highest individual accolade a New Zealand Netballer can achieve. It recognises the best Netballer across the ANZ Championship and the Silver Ferns campaign between the period October 1, 2014 and September 30, 2015.

Dame Lois is a pioneer of the game and one of the sport’s most influential figures. Renowned for her athleticism as a player, her tenacity and innovation as a coach – she is at the heart and soul of Netball in New Zealand.

The trophy features a hand-blown glass orb with 24 carat gold leaf at its centre encapsulating the ‘whole of Netball’.  It is nestled atop a hand-woven wire net and brass hoop embraced by two hand-carved, golden ferns and mounted on a polished granite base – symbolising the strength of Netball’s foundations.

The gold, a precious metal, is homage to the gold mining heritage of the Southland/Otago region where Dame Lois grew up and symbolises the ultimate aspiration to win gold in sporting competition.

The culmination of 42 hours of workmanship and artistry by five designers has gone into creating this masterpiece; featuring glass, metal and stone - all essential elements of the Earth.

Who will take home the night’s most prestigious accolade? Tune into SKY Sport 1 from 8pm to catch all the action from Netball’s biggest night – the inaugural New Zealand Netball Awards.
