Coveted Black Dress Up For Grabs

Only a select few will be chosen, fulfilling the hopes and dreams of a lifetime when the Silver Ferns team to contest the Netball World Cup Sydney 2015 (NWC2015) is named next week.

Thirty players from all over New Zealand will descend on Auckland for three days of trials starting Monday, in a last ditch effort to catch the eyes of NNZ national selectors. Only 12 will make the cut for the country’s national Netball team, as they journey on the road to NWC2015.

For a number of these the players, this is their first opportunity to vie for a black dress.

It’s been four long years since the disappointing one-goal loss to the Australian Diamonds in the final of the World Netball Championships in Singapore. Seven of the Silver Ferns in that 2011 team have made the trial list but with 12 spots up for grabs the only guarantee is there will be tough competition for the 2015 Silver Ferns World Cup side. No place in the team is secure with coach Waimarama Taumaunu stating there is room for players to impress in each third of the court.

The Silver Ferns team will be named after the trials, on July 2, and another 12 players will be named in the NZA team.  The NZA team will also travel to Sydney for international game experience prior to NWC2015.

It all comes down to three days of intense trials with National Selectors taking into account age group form, ANZ Championship form, trial form, and the Oceania Test Series at start of the year.
