New Zealand farewells the Silver Ferns

The Silver Ferns road to the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 (NWC2015) has reached the home straight with the team officially farewelled at a special on-court presentation on Tuesday night.

With Netball’s pinnacle event starting next week, the Silver Ferns and team management received individualised gifts from 19 passionate SilverFans as part of the post-match celebrations after defeating South Africa’s SPAR Proteas 67-28.

The win at The Trusts Arena wraps up the New World Netball Series for the Taini Jamison Trophy with the silverware securely locked away for another year.

Chelsea Oliver, who plays in Year 8, Team 1 at Baradene College was one of the lucky children chosen to be part of the presentation.  The aspiring shooter handed her gift to Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu.

“It was an honour to get the chance to go up and meet the team in person,” Chelsea said.

“Maria Tutaia is my favourite player because she is someone to look up to and great at the position she plays.”

The Silver Ferns fly to Sydney on Monday ahead of their opening match of NWC2015 on Friday 7 August against Barbados.
