Plummer to lead SPAR Proteas against Silver Ferns

Former Australian Diamonds coach Norma Plummer will lead the South Africa National Netball team - the SPAR Proteas – into Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 (NWC2015).

The SPAR Proteas, currently playing in the four nations Diamond Challenge, will play the Silver Ferns next month in the New World Netball Series for the Taini Jamison Trophy ahead of NWC2015 – click here to purchase tickets

Plummer has been working closely with Netball South Africa, most recently attending a training camp in February and mentoring their coaching staff.

Former SPAR Proteas coach Bennie Saayman will continue as an assistant coach, with former Australian international and 1995 world championship gold medallist Nicole Cusack appointed as the second assistant coach as the shooting specialist.  Cusack was Plummer’s assistant at the Netball World Championships in Singapore in 2011, where they guided Australia to the gold medal.

Plummer said the two-match Test Series against the Silver Ferns in July was important to the SPAR Proteas’ NWC2015 preparation.

“It is important for the players to have the experience of playing against one of the world’s top teams before they head into the World Cup, and regardless of the outcome of those tests, they will benefit,” Plummer said.

The SPAR Proteas arrive in New Zealand for a two-match Test Series against the Silver Ferns on Sunday 26 July at Claudelands Arena (Hamilton) and at The Trusts Arena (Auckland) on Tuesday 28 July. Tickets to the matches are on sale to the public from 12pm, Friday 19 July through Ticketek.
