Hard-working Canterbury wing attack Janice Waddy made her debut for the Silver Ferns at the 1979 Netball World Cup in Trinidad where the New Zealanders shared the title with the hosts and Australia.

A quick and nimble player, Waddy was a valuable team member, a strong tactician who could always be relied on to carry out the game plan and versatile with her ability to play all three midcourt roles.

Not always a player to stand out, she was the type of player coaches loved, ever-ready to do the hard yards without question.

Waddy was selected again in a busy 1981 when the Silver Ferns hosted England before playing England and Australia in a Tri-Series across the Tasman.
