Lynne Macdonald profile

Lynne Macdonald

1969

WD
GA
Defence orientated, Otago’s Lyn Macdonald was adept at all three midcourt positions but a particular standout at wing defence after being chosen in the 1969 Silver Ferns team for the two-Test home series against Australia.

Quick-witted and fleet-footed, MacDonald had a strong aerial game and was always a force to be reckoned with through her athleticism and cunning ball skills.

Seemingly set for a long career, Macdonald moved to Australia after the 1969 series and then went on to England, who she turned out for at the 1975 Netball World Cup in Auckland. The New Zealander went on to help England secure their first-ever win over the Silver Ferns at that tournament.

An outstanding all-round sportswoman, Macdonald also represented New Zealand at basketball and softball.
