Dame Noeline Taurua profile

Dame Noeline Taurua

1994 - 1999

GA
WA
Diminutive attacker Noeline Taurua progressed from the Young Internationals to the Silver Ferns in 1994, making her debut the same year against Australia.

What she lacked in size, Taurua more than made up for with her great playmaking skills, foot speed and quick thinking.

Able to play all three frontline attacking positions, Taurua was most prominent at goal attack where she dazzled with her on-court wizardry.

Playing for Wellington during a dominant era, Taurua formed half of the best shooting combination in the country at the time with Leilani Read.

Little for a shooter, Taurua’s strengths made her a highly effective and efficient performer in the circle.

Smart, quick and often ahead of the play, Taurua was difficult to defend with her ability to off-load when in a tight contest while also being very accurate on the short to medium range shot.

Crafty and creative with the ball, Taurua played in the 1995 Netball World Cup and 1998 Commonwealth Games before a serious knee injury ended her career.
